Nokia tweet: First Nokia handsets with Microsoft Windows Phone to be shipped in Q4

Ever since Nokia and Microsoft entered a partnership in which the Finnish phonemaker would manufacture handsets featuring Windows Phone, there’s been speculation over when the first such devices would hit the market. It’s been expected that that would happen this fall.

Now a tweet on Nokia’s corporate Twitter account offers slightly more specifics. It says the first such devices will ship in the fourth quarter of this year. It’s unknown specifically when that would happen, or which countries would get them, though the tweet cc’s Nokia Australia.

The tweet reads: “@gorval32 We cannot confirm local availability but the 1st Nokia w/ WP devices will ship in Q4 and with volumes in 2012 cc @NokiaAustralia.”

Nokia chose Windows Phone as the OS for all its smartphones going into the future and a lot is at stake for both companies in this partnership. Both companies have seen their shares of the mobile phone market slide, and both are counting on the partnership to help them regain market share.
