Zune player: Dead again for good?

It appears the Zune player — which had appeared officially dead earlier this month but then may have been resurrected — is now officially dead again.

Earlier this month, a message had gone up on the Zune support site saying Microsoft “will no longer be producing Zune players.” But later that message was taken down and Zune Support, via its Twitter account, said that message had been put up in error.

Now, that message is back up again on the Zune support site.

The website Windows Phone Down Under has been keeping track of the fate of the Zune player and says the death of the Zune player was confirmed on the Windows Phone Radio podcast.

[Update 10:05 a.m.: A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that “Yes, we are no longer producing Zune devices. Going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy.”]
