Bill Gates rents Florida mansion for equestrian daughter, reports say

Corrected version

Bill Gates has rented a home in Wellington, Florida so that his eldest daughter can be close to the Winter Equestrian Festival and for the entire family to stay over the winter, reports say.

Gates’ daughter Jennifer is apparently an equestrienne on the junior circuit and plans to compete at the Winter Equestrian Festival in West Palm Beach, which runs January to April, according to SFGate, home of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The 7,300-square foot, eight-bedroom home sits on five acres including a barn and horse arena, reports Gossip Extra, written by former Miami Herald columnist Jose Lambiet, who broke the news.

Lambiet, citing two real estate sources, says the rental runs from December through May, with a rent of $600,000 for that entire period, and that Gates, his wife, Melinda Gates and their three children are scheduled to move into the home shortly.

Lambiet says Gates also has an option to buy the home, which is on the market for $12.9 million, and that he can put the $600,000 toward the purchase.

Information in this post, originally published Oct. 13, 2011, was corrected Oct. 14, 2011. A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the rent on the house was $600,000 a month, as printed in SFGate.com. The correct figure is $600,000 for the months of December through May, as was accurately reported in Gossip Extra.
