Two Seattle startups among Kinect Accelerator finalists

Two companies from Seattle — Freak’n Genius and IKKOS — are among 11 finalists chosen to participate in the Kinect Accelerator program.

The three-month program, run by Microsoft and TechStars, is for startups with ideas for commercial applications using Microsoft Kinect’s motion- and voice-sensing technologies. Participants receive mentoring by entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and Microsoft executives.

Microsoft said it received nearly 500 applications for the program, with programs spanning various industries including healthcare, education, retail and entertainment.

The 11 finalists include startups from the U.S., Canada, Argentina, France and Germany.

The Seattle finalists are Freak’n Genius, an animation company, and IKKOS, a movement training company.
