Splashy Times Square event planned for Nokia’s Lumia 900 launch

lumia900.jpgNokia is planning a big, attention-grabbing party for the launch of the Lumia 900, its flagship Windows Phone that holds the smartphone future of both Nokia and Microsoft in its sleek polycarbonate case.

The launch party is happening at 7 p.m. Friday at Times Square in New York City, with a “live performance with special guest,” according to a Nokia invitation cited by International Business Times.

The Lumia 900 is both Nokia and Microsoft’s great hope for making a dent in the global smartphone market, where neither company has made much of an impression against Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android phones.

New York City was the setting for another splashy Windows Phone event last November, as Microsoft put up a giant Windows Phone display at Herald Square.
