Welcome to Microsoft Pri0: That's Microspeak for top priority, and that's the news and observations you'll find here from Seattle Times technology reporter Matt Day.

Update: Free access to Xbox Live Gold membership offerings this weekend

Even if you don’t have an Xbox Live Gold membership, you’ll be able to use that subscription service — and view everything from Netflix to Hulu Plus — free this weekend via your Xbox.

Microsoft is offering a promotion starting today and running through Monday, unlocking its Xbox LIVE subscription service. During this time, anyone with an Xbox console will be able to use all of the entertainment app experiences on the Xbox Live service.

Microsoft says that during this period, MLB.TV, Hulu Plus, Netflix and EPIX are also lifting their subscription fees for those using an Xbox.

Microsoft did not get back to us on if other apps that require a subscription will also be lifting their subscription fees during this time.

[Updated 3:39 p.m.: Microsoft got back to us on whether other apps will require a subscription. The answer: It varies. MLB.TV, Hulu Plus, Netflix and EPIX are the only ones lifting their subscription fee during the promotional period. (The latter three are offering free trials.) Other apps are available during the period to all Xbox Live members even without a Gold membership but subscription fees and restrictions may apply. For instance, you will need an HBO subscription to watch HBO GO.]
