Windows 8 Release Preview coming in June

Microsoft has announced that the Release Preview version of Windows 8 will come out the first week of June.

This will presumably be the final test version of Windows 8 before it’s launched to general availability in the market.

The announcement was apparently made by Windows President Steven Sinofsky during the Windows Developer Days event in Japan. Here’s the tweet from Microsoft’s official Building Windows 8 Twitter account:

A Developer Preview version of Windows 8 — Microsoft’s radical overhaul of its flagship operating system — was released in September. A Consumer Preview version was made available in February.

Microsoft has not announced when Windows 8 will be released to general availability but it’s expected that that will happen in October.

[Update 11:18 a.m.: Microsoft announced that Windows Server 2012 Release Candidate will also be delivered in June.]
