The Wall Street Journal is reporting that rumors are true that Microsoft is buying Yammer for $1.2 billion.
The Journal, citing a person familiar with the matter, said it was unclear when the purchase will be completed.
Yammer provides private social networking for companies.
It’s unclear at this point whether Microsoft, which already has its own collaboration software for businesses in SharePoint, intends to incorporate Yammer’s technologies into its own offerings.
Both Microsoft and Yammer’s spokespeople had said earlier that they don’t comment on rumors and speculation.
