Report: No upgrade to Windows Phone 8 for current Windows Phone users

The Verge is reporting that current users of Windows Phone will not be able to update to Windows Phone 8, the upcoming version.

The Verge quotes Microsoft’s Greg Sullivan, who says: “The nature of the investment [in Windows Phone 8] is primarily in areas that are not exploitable by existing hardware.”

Microsoft will offer, instead, a Windows Phone 7.8 software update for existing devices, which will bring the new Start screen look/interface, according to The Verge.

You can read more about the new Windows Phone Start screen, and what improvements are being made for Windows Phone 8, here.
