EU opens antitrust investigation of Microsoft

The European Union is opening an antitrust investigation into whether Microsoft kept the commitments it made in 2009 to provide a browser choice screen allowing users to select a browser other than Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, according to The Associated Press.

In a statement, Microsoft acknowledged it had “fallen short in our responsibility to do this,” attributing it to a technical error. “While we have taken immediate steps to remedy this problem, we deeply regret that this error occurred and we apologize for it.”
