Microsoft introduces new mice, keyboards to work with Windows 8

Wedge Touch Mouse and Wedge Mobile Keyboard Setup.jpg

It’s not nearly as big an announcement as Microsoft making its own Surface tablets, but the folks in Redmond are coming out with a new set of hardware designed for Windows 8: mice and keyboards.

They’re designed to work with the more touch-centric Windows 8, allowing for more touch navigation and hot keys that pull up Windows 8-specific features.

The Wedge Touch Mouse (in photo above) — smooth, compact, minimalist and shaped like a wedge of cheese — provides horizontal and vertical touch scrolling. It’s priced at $69.95.

The Wedge Mobile Keyboard (also in photo above) is designed for tablet users and includes Windows Hot Keys to pull up Windows 8 features such as charms. The keyboard cover converts into a tablet stand. Retail price is set at $79.95.

Sculpt Mobile Keyboard.jpgThe curvier Sculpt Touch Mouse has a four-way touch scroll strip, while the Sculpt Mobile keyboard (at right) has an ergonomic “Comfort Curve” design. Both retail for $49.95.

All four of the above connect to laptop or tablet via Bluetooth.

In addition, Microsoft has added Windows 8 gestures to the Touch Mouse, allowing for four-way one-finger swipes, two-finger movements to manage maps, three-finger zoom, and thumb gestures to navigate back and forth within apps. Price is set at $79.95.

The products will be available soon at the online Microsoft Store and other retailers, according to Microsoft.
