Nokia selling app unit

Nokia is selling its app unit, opting instead to rely increasingly on Microsoft’s Windows Phone operation for its apps, Bloomberg reports.

Nokia sold its Qt app-tools unit — which developers use to write apps for Nokia’s Symbian and MeeGo operating systems — to Digia, according to Bloomberg.

Nokia is phasing out Symbian and MeeGo in favor of the Windows Phone operating system.

Microsoft’s worldwide smartphone market share, though still tiny, went up in the second quarter to 3.5 percent, according to research firm IDC, which attributed the gain mainly to Nokia.
