New version of Parallels for Desktop 8 ready for Mountain Lion and Windows 8

Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac.pngA new version of Renton-based Parallels’ software that allows Mac users to run Windows and Mac applications side by side without rebooting is launching today.

This new version is designed to work with both Mountain Lion, Apple’s newest iteration of its OS X operating system, and Windows 8, the big revamp of Microsoft’s flagship operating system which is set to launch Oct. 26.

For instance, users will be able to utilize Mountain Lion’s Dictation tool across both Windows and Mac environments, organize Windows 8’s new tile/modern-style applications in OS X’s Launchpad, and enjoy Retina display resolution in both Mac and Windows apps.

The new version is available as a $49.99 upgrade to current users of Parallels Desktop users, downloadable here.

New customers will be able to buy Parallels Desktop 8 at retail and reseller locations and via the Parallels website on Sept. 4. The standard retail price will be $79.99, with other prices available for various editions.
