Microsoft says it’s set a Guinness World Record for most participants in a software development marathon in one location after it brought together 2,567 developers for an 18-hour coding session in Bangalore, India.
The developers had gathered for Windows AppFest to design, build and test apps for Windows. The marathon also included morning yoga sessions and night performances from DJs and rock bands.
Microsoft is trying to drum up excitement among developers to create apps for Windows 8, the radical re-invention of its flagship operating system that’s due to launch on Oct. 26. The company says there have been more than 750 Windows developer events held in over 50 countries worldwide since Windows 8 was previewed to developers last year.
Microsoft has not released official figures on the number of apps that have been developed for Windows 8 in its Windows Store. But according to the non-official WinAppUpdate.com site, there were more than 2,000 as of Friday and the number is growing.
