Microsoft proposes companies pay to allow for more H-1B visa hires

Microsoft is calling on Congress to create 20,000 new H-1B visas for jobs in technical fields — areas where the company says there aren’t enough skilled U.S. workers to fill demand.

Microsoft is also proposing that companies that would benefit from such an increase in H-1B visas pay for the right to hire such foreign workers, and that the U.S. government use the money to then train American workers to fill those jobs, my colleague, Kyung M. Song, reports from Washington, D.C.

Here’s Song’s story.
