Surface pre-orders sell out

It appears that the unspecified, limited quantity of Surface tablets that Microsoft set aside for pre-orders has sold out.

On the Surface pre-orders page, the three models of the tablet (ranging in price from $499 to $699) are listed as shipping within 1 to 3 weeks — rather than for delivery by launch day, as was the case last week, when pre-ordering opened.

Microsoft has declined to say how many Surface devices it had set aside for the pre-orders so it’s impossible to gauge the actual demand.

Surface is Microsoft’s first branded tablet. A version of the tablet that runs on ARM-based processors — called Surface with Windows RT — is set to launch on Oct. 26.
