The ability to choose which folders to sync from SkyDrive is among the updates to the personal cloud storage offering that Microsoft announced this week.
SkyDrive plays a big role in Microsoft’s consumer push, with Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices, and Office 2013 making big use of the cloud-storage service to help customers store and sync content across devices.
Among the updates announced Thursday:
- Selective sync, which allows customers to choose which folders from SkyDrive are synced. This allows people using devices with smaller drives to utilize their space more efficiently.
- Sharing from the desktop, which allows customers to share their SkyDrive files with one click right from File Explorer.
- The ability for customers using SkyDrive on Windows Phone and Android devices to search through their SkyDrive files and control their photo upload and download size.
Microsoft also said SkyDrive has doubled in size since releasing desktop apps for Windows and Mac OSx six months ago.
