Microsoft announces Imagine Cup Grants winners

Microsoft today announced the winners of its second annual Imagine Cup Grants program. The program provides funding and networking opportunities to help teams of students who come up with projects using Microsoft technologies and that address social or community issues, to form nonprofits or social enterprises.

The winners, according to a Microsoft news release, are:

  • Team Graphmasters, from Germany, was awarded the grand-prize grant of $100,000 for a project it calls “nunav.” Nunav reduces vehicle carbon emissions through an innovative navigation system.
  • Team StethoCloud, from Australia, was awarded $75,000 for its project to diagnose childhood pneumonia.
  • Grants of $50,000 each went to Team Vivid from Egypt, which built a mobile app to access medical records using the cloud; Team Cipher256 from Uganda for its mobile app and listening device to analyze fetal heart rates; and Team QuadSquad from Ukraine, which created a solution that transforms sign language into verbal communication.
