Microsoft may be hastening its plans to sell Surface RT tablets in places other than just its retail and online stores, reports Paul Thurrott at Windows IT Pro.
Thurrott says Microsoft had originally planned to expand its distribution in early 2013, but now those plans have been pushed up and will happen “within days” — i.e., in this holiday shopping season.
Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet elaborates a bit more on what Thurrott had been told, saying the broader distribution will apparently happen in two phases. Phase 1 is to countries where there are no Microsoft retail stores. Phase 2 — to start in January — is supposedly when big-box retailers, including Best Buy and Staples, will start selling the Surface RT and Surface Pro.
MIcrosoft, per its usual policy, declined to comment “on rumors and speculation.”
