Microsoft being honored for its support of the arts
Microsoft is one of 10 companies being honored next week for their support of the arts.
The companies were chosen as “Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America” in 2013 by the nonprofit Americans for the Arts.
Since 1995, Microsoft and its employees have given $353 million in cash, software and volunteer time to arts-focused organizations, according to Americans for the Arts. The company was also lauded for its corporate art collection, which includes some 5,000 pieces.
Microsoft was nominated by ArtsFund, which raises money for the arts in Western Washington. This year, ArtsFund distributed $2.6 million in grants to 59 nonprofit arts groups in King and Pierce counties.
Microsoft is ArtsFund’s largest current annual donor, contributing $325,000 annually. Microsoft employees have served in leadership roles in ArtsFund, as well as on the boards of many local arts organizations.
The companies will be honored at a Wednesday event in New York City.
