Best Buy offering minimum $200 trade-in for Surface tablets

Just ahead of the launch of  the next generation of Surface devices, Best Buy is offering a trade-in deal for older Surface tablets.

The offer, good through Oct. 21, means customers who trade in a Surface RT or Surface Pro tablet will receive a gift card worth at least $200 and possibly up to $350, depending on the model and condition. The trade-in is being offered in-store only — not online — and the tablets being traded in must be able to power on and have no water damage or screen cracks.

The offer means that even if you have, say, a 32GB Surface RT in poor condition, which would normally be worth $67.50 in trade-in value, Best Buy will give you a guaranteed $200 minimum gift card on trade in through Oct. 21, said Best Buy spokesman Jonathan Sandler.

The offer comes ahead of the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 launch, scheduled for Oct. 22. But the gift card is good for anything in the stores and not limited to Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 purchases, Sandler said.

Best Buy is also offering other trade-in deals including giving smartphone owners $100 in trade-in credit when they upgrade to the iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s. That offer is good from Oct. 13 to Oct. 19.
