Some things are safer to share than others, but have a much lesser impact. I like how Kathy Swoyer phrased it in an email response to my column about sharing political views:
I strongly believe that Facebook is a tool for all of us to express opinions, not just for those who have insipid things to share. (“If you love your husband/mother/son/pug/god more than life itself, like and share immediately!!” “If you’re really truly my friend, you will like, share and re-post this to your wall!!”).
“Friends” will be lost by posting your true thoughts, beliefs and politics, but that’s what makes living in this country so wonderful — everyone’s entitled to an opinion and is free to share it. And, you never know, you might just be a positive influence on someone, or at least open up a much-needed dialogue.
