Tonia Buell of the Washington State Department of Transportation told me last week that more than 500 Teslas were on Washington roads, an estimate I included in my Sunday column about electric vehicles’ popularity in Washington. Her figures were preliminary, still being collected by state trackers.
On Monday, she let me know her estimate was more conservative than she had intended. With final figures in from the Washington State Department of Licensing, 1,064 Tesla Model S’s and 52 Tesla Roadsters are registered in Washington, for a grand total of 1,116 Tesla cars.
Tom Saxton of Plug In America followed up on Sunday’s story with more good figures. A report on Washington’s auto market showed 136 Teslas were registered in the state in the fourth quarter of 2013 — a 260 percent jump from the 38 registered here in the fourth quarter of 2012.
If you like where electric vehicles are headed, that’s not too shabby.
