Report: NBA might seek $75M relocation fee in Kings move to Seattle
A couple of interesting notes and links to pass along concerning the future of the Sacramento Kings and their potential move to Seattle:
– First, CBSSports.com had a long story over the weekend examining how all of this might affect the future of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson. Included in the story is a mention that the NBA can set the fee for relocating a franchise at just about anything it wants, and that it’s rumored it could ask for $75 million from the Seattle group if it gets the OK to move the team here. It could improve the odds of a move since it’s money the existing owners get to share — and they’re the ones who will vote on whether to approve the sale of the team from the Maloofs to the Chris Hansen/Steve Ballmer group, and a subsequent move to Seattle.
— Second, the Times reported earlier today on the ILUW planning to appeal the ruling of Feb. 22 that threw out its challenge to the Sodo arena plan.
— Finally, NBA.com has a detailed story reporting that the Maloofs may ultimately make the call here, signaling to the NBA to approve which deal it prefers.
