Hansen releases hockey arena renderings

Wondering what the proposed new Sodo arena might look like configured for a hockey game?

Chris Hansen gave the public a peek today, releasing a couple of renderings of the hockey arena, as well as a statement about his hopes for that sport coming to Seattle.

The release of the renderings came on the same day his website, sonicsarena.com, went live to take requests from fans to be put on a waiting list for tickets for the Sonics, should they return to Seattle for the 2013-14 season.

There are no details available yet on how many fans signed up. However, traffic was high enough shortly after the waitlist went live at 10 a.m. that the sonicsarena.com site crashed.

Also today, the Sacramento Bee has a story on the pledge of two Sacramento attorneys threaten to file a referendum petition if the city council approves a public subsidy for a new downtown arena in that city, aimed at keeping the Kings. Reports are the city may ask for $250 million or more to fund a new arena.
