Hansen says 44,000 put names on waitlist for season tickets, calls results “stunning”
On the eve of critical meetings with the NBA tomorrow in New York, Chris Hansen this afternoon said 44,000 Sonics fans put their names on a season ticket priority waitlist established three weeks ago via the sonicsarena.com web site. You can view all the results here.
Hansen said there were 32,000 requests for season tickets in the first 24 hours that the waitlist went live, and also reported there were 268 requests for suites and 983 businesses interested in sponsorship opportunities.
Hansen wrote in a message accompanying the results that the numbers were “nothing short of stunning” and sends a message that Seattle “has and always will be a GREAT basketball city.”
Hansen established the waitlist three weeks ago, writing then that “in addition to helping us understand and prioritize the demand for tickets, registering your interest will be a critical step in demonstrating to the NBA and basketball fans around the country the unbelievable passion that exists in the Emerald City to BRING BACK OUR SONICS!’’
He also wrote of the impending meetings that “this is one of the biggest days of my life and a seminal moment for the City.”
Hansen, Steve Ballmer, mayor Mike McGinn and King County executive Dow Constantine will be part of the group representing Seattle here Wednesday, a meeting set to begin in the late morning.
