Washington State Parks continue to celebrate the park system’s 100th birthday, and the next big “signature” event to mark on your calendar is an Aug. 3 bash at Deception Pass State Park.
The 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday event will include music all day, model sailboat races, park tours, crafts, food vendors, a Volkssport walk, and Junior Ranger and other activities for children. A ceremony with remarks by dignitaries and an unspecified “special birthday moment with an opportunity for crowd participation” (can anyone sing “Happy Birthday”?) is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. Festivities will be in the East Cranberry Lake area near the park’s main entrance, on the Whidbey Island portion of the park.
You don’t have to bring presents to the party, but you do have to bring your Discover Pass ($10 per day/$30 per year).
The event is sponsored by the Deception Pass Park Foundation (click here to learn more).
