AAA of Washington travel counselors report that top destinations for Western Washington motorists this Thanksgiving holiday — in addition to grandmother’s house — are:

  1. Portland
  2. Oregon Coast (including Cannon Beach, Lincoln City)
  3. Victoria, B.C.
  4. Leavenworth
  5. Vancouver, B.C.

What will be the busiest days on the highway? AAA asked intended travelers which days they would depart for and return from Thanksgiving travel. Among those surveyed, the highest volumes of travelers plan to leave for their trip the Wednesday before the holiday (37 percent) and return the following Sunday (33 percent), with another 24 percent expecting to return on Monday, Dec 2, or later.

If a road trip is in your plans, there’s a note of good news if you’re stuck in traffic: The average price of regular gasoline in Washington State is down to $3.31 per gallon, 20 cents less than this time last year.
