Miserable driving amid Oregon snowstorm

Yes, that’s a normally busy freeway  – Interstate 5 in Salem, Ore., which has been hammered by a winter storm. The traffic camera picture was taken at 1.20 p.m. Friday. (Oregon Department of Transportation camera.)

If you were thinking of a road trip this weekend  to Portland or the Oregon coast, rethink it.

Those areas, and much of the rest of Western Oregon and southwest Washington, have been slammed by a winter snowstorm with more snow (and freezing rain in some places)  forecast through Saturday. Some lowland areas have more than a foot of snow.

A winter storm warning has been issued for Eugene and surrounding areas, and the Oregon Department of Transportation has warned that roads, including Interstate 5 (particularly around Eugene and Salem) are snowy, icy and difficult to drive and there have been accidents and delays.  Get road and weather info at the transportation department’s TripCheck.com
