Airlines return to Los Cabos after hurricane, hotels reopening but some shut until 2015

Staff at Pueblo Bonito Resorts and Spas have worked to repair and reopen its properties in tourism-dependent Los Cabos. They’re shown here in a photo from the company’s Facebook page.

The Mexican resort of Los Cabos,  devastated by a hurricane in mid-September, welcomed back U.S. airlines on Wednesday, including  Alaska Airlines (a flight from Los Angeles), Delta and United.  The airport had been closed to commercial flights after Hurricane Odile slammed into the area on Sept. 14,  heavily damaging buildings throughout the area and knocking out power, water and phone service (which have been restored).

Flights will increase gradually this month and through the fall, with a normal schedule expected by early December at the resort, a popular destination for Americans. However,  many Los Cabos  hotels have not yet reopened.  Fifteen hotels are open as of Wednesday, said the Hotel Association of Los Cabos, and more will reopen this month.  Some hotels won’t open until spring 2015. Others have not yet set a reopening date.

Here’s the hotel  status according to the hotel association, which added that restaurants are open and golf courses are reopening.
