Monday survey: Where’s your favorite sun spot?

I don’t know about you, but after a week of foggy, cold days around Puget Sound, I’m ready to throw my fleece gloves and Thinsulate earmuffs in a rime-coated dumpster and run screaming toward someplace sunny.

Is Baja’s Sea of Cortez the place to escape Seattle’s freezing fogs? Tell us your favorite winter sun spot. (photo by Brian J. Cantwell / The Seattle Times)

OK, we did have a sun break Sunday while my wife and I wandered the Ballard Farmers Market in pursuit of winter squash and golden beets, but back at Shilshole the damp, chilling gray enfolded us once again. It reminded me of a journal entry from Sir Francis Drake’s exploration of the Northwest coast that bemoaned the “foul and stinking fogges.” Sounds like low tide at Golden Gardens.

So, where do you escape to?

It happens we’re visiting friends next weekend in the rain-shadow town of Sequim, so we have hopes. What’s your favorite winter sun-haven? The Methow Valley? Skiing at Mission Ridge? Or — one of my favorites — February in Baja? Click on “comments” and share your tips on where you go to ditch the winter blues. Later in the week, I’ll list the favorites and put it to a vote.
