Farewell to a President Bush

Let’s be civil

In these waning days of the George W. Bush presidency, it seems the whole nation has forgotten the one thing we so feared just seven years ago — terrorism here in our homeland.

We argue the pros and cons of this upcoming election, but it might be time to acknowledge that “W” and his administration have kept U.S. safe.

Whether it’s luck, divine protection, a more knowledgeable and alert government or a damaged adversary, we all sleep better and worry less about a bomb around the corner or in the stadium.

Gratefully, we are starting to treat people who look and dress differently, with more civility.

Soon, No. 43 will be packing for the ranch. As his term winds down, let’s not take for granted the daily stress our national security must have on him.

Despite our political viewpoints, we should all take a brief moment during Bush’s last few weeks as our commander, and appreciate that we have been kept safe from additional attacks.

We might also want to say a prayer of thanks for able local and national leaders willing to take tough stands in the interest of fulfilling their various oaths.
