Moving the nation forward

Changes are upon us

You captured the most important issues with your editorial on moving America forward [“Getting America moving,” Times, editorial, Nov. 2].

The first step for the next president and Congress is to make sure they are held to their constitutional accountability.

Identify the persons responsible for the economic and foreign-policy messes and have a special-investigation committee that will recommend what is just and fair to pay for the bailout and not put the burden on the taxpayers.

Congress is responsible for spending and it is required to provide a statement of account for the receipts and expenditures of all public money. Appropriations must not be authorized or approved unless they are compatible with our Constitution.

All legislation must be read and debated by each member of Congress before they vote on it. They are passing all kinds of bills without reading the hundreds of pages. Take the Patriot Act, for example, which eroded the Bill of Rights.

Each week, it will be very helpful if you enlighten your readers on each article of the Constitution succinctly and make sure that our government leaders are following it.
