Ideology of the privileged
Bruce Ramsey is all sour grapes about the defeat of Amendment 46 in Colorado [“Rocky Mountain high on preferences,” editorial columnist, Nov. 12]. Ramsey wants to call off affirmative-action preferences like they did in 1998 when affirmative action lost in Washington.
But affirmative action is not preferences. It’s a law to undo the preferences of employers who practice racist preferences in their hiring.
There are thousands of studies which prove racist and sexist discrimination is rampant in this society—in hiring, housing, contracting, etc. Affirmative action is greatly needed by the majority of the population. Advancement for workers, students and others will happen only when there’s equality for all.
Those who deny this are just wallowing in the ideology of the privileged.
