War on drugs

Try something sensible

Thank you for using your influential voice to try to end this senseless war on drugs [“It’s time to end the war on drugs,” Neal Peirce column, Dec. 14]. It always seems to be easier to declare war on something we deem to be evil rather than trying to figure out how to solve the causes of that evil.

The war on drugs has been a disaster for this country and even more of a disaster for the drug-producing countries like Colombia. The people of Colombia have suffered by watching their country being corrupted by the 1 percent that have accumulated enormous wealth and power due to the fabulous profits made possible by our so-called “war on drugs.”

Thank you for pointing out the economic impacts, which might nudge our politicians toward more sensible policies.

— Richard Moxon, Medina
