Cats in the library

Licking wherever and whenever

I don’t have anything against cats but feel ill at the thought of them crawling over books, rubbing their behinds on the bindings and licking wherever and whatever [“Purr-fect for the library,” Local News, Feb. 3].

I find respite in going to a library, and I don’t want to be subjected to cat dander. I sneeze enough while working in my garden.

I don’t think citizens who pay taxes to support their library should have the added expense of supporting a cat house.

— James Monroe, Edmonds

Consider the allergic customer

I read the article about the cats at the Ocean Shores Library with interest. I live in Ocean Shores and have gone to the library several times. However, I cannot sit down to relax and read in the library at Ocean Shores.

I am extremely allergic to cats. I often wondered if anyone had taken this fact into consideration when they allowed cats to be in a public library. I do not want the Ocean Shores Library to get rid of their cats, but I do want them to know that not everyone is happy with the situation.

— Joseph Berlin, Ocean Shores
