Diplomacy with Iran

Not the only nuclear elephant

Norman Marsh of Everett, in his letter to the editor on Feb. 7 [“Don’t ignore the nuclear elephant,” Northwest Voices, Feb. 7], advises President Obama to either “accept the inevitability of a nuclear-armed Iran or else insist that Israel give up its nuclear weapons.”

I wonder: Would Marsh come up with the same logic if the United States were faced with a North Korea or Pakistan with nuclear-armed missiles? Of course, neither of them has expressed, as has Iran, the “annihilation” of an enemy state. But, North Korea has its DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) and Pakistan has its Kashmir.

Why is Israel the only foreign policy dilemma Marsh presents the President?
