15-year-old girl beaten by King County sheriff’s deputy

A new low

Now that I have seen the video of the King County sheriff’s Deputy Paul Schene beating the 15-year-old girl while she was in custody [“Video used in charging deputy released,” Local News, Feb. 28], I am waiting to hear the justification for his actions. I am at a loss to imagine a scenario that warrants his actions in light of today’s domestic-violence laws.

I understand his lawyer is asking for a change of venue because he thinks the video might prejudice the jury pool for the deputy’s trial. Where was he hoping to move the trial to: Bosnia or maybe Afghanistan, where his actions wouldn’t be that off from the norm?

I didn’t think anything could further ruin the reputation of a lawyer until I came across this mess, but now I believe we have a new low. As far as the deputy is concerned, it’s just another black eye on the already-ugly face of law enforcement.

Replace him immediately

As a parent of a 16-year-old, I was completely shocked and appalled watching the behavior of Deputy Paul Schene.

Is this the “law enforcement protection of the people?” I don’t care what the victim said or how many shoes she kicked at him, this man is out of control and has no business being in law enforcement or carrying a firearm of any kind.

Too many good-tempered, experienced people need jobs now; replace him immediately!

— Mary Vernier, Detroit, Mich.
