U.S. defense budget

Invest in true security, not unused, billion-dollar weapons

For a fraction of what we spend on this Pentagon pork, we could be providing health care for every American, giving our kids the education they need or putting millions of our neighbors back to work.

We need to invest in true security, not billion-dollar weapons designed for wars we’re not fighting.

Congress needs to listen to President Obama and Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and shift funding from useless Cold War weapons to rebuilding our country.

While our military fights insurgents armed with makeshift bombs, the vast majority of our military budget goes for yet more high-tech submarines, space weapons, and fighter jets with no enemy to face. These weapons programs continue to exist only because they make huge profits for Pentagon contractors.

Rep. Frank, chairman of the House Banking and Financial Services Committee, recently said he believes we can finance health care for all Americans by cutting the defense budget and reinvesting in America.
