Bellingham work-site raid

No work permits for illegal immigrants

It’s hard to believe that several people were caught living and working here illegally and most of them were rewarded with work permits [“New focus of work-site raids?” page one, April 1].

Maybe instead of coming to America to live under our Constitution, they should just take our Constitution back home and use it there — we obviously aren’t using it.

Our unemployment rate nationwide is at or near the highest we’ve seen since the Great Depression, yet we allow people to sneak across our borders and work and live here illegally.

Instead of rewarding them, we should be fining the employer an amount that makes the risk not worthwhile — enough that it puts them out of business — and ship the illegals out of the country. Any possessions of value — jewelry, cars, RVs, cash, bank accounts, homes — should then be forfeited to the U.S. government.
