Obama and Notre Dame

Objectors should remember Reagan

These priests have a very short memory [“10 Holy Cross priests object to Obama invitation,” seattletimes.com, Living, April 8]. They say Obama shouldn’t receive an honorary degree from Notre Dame because he is pro-choice. Please note that Obama isn’t performing abortions or having one himself; he simply says that others should have that choice.

Have these good fathers forgotten that Ronald Reagan spoke at Notre Dame and received an honorary degree as well? Catholic doctrine certainly prohibits divorce and remarriage. And Reagan didn’t merely support divorce rights; he practiced them. This is different — how?
