Redirect money and efforts to the U.S.
Editor, The Times:
Great speech, President Obama [“Obama reaches out with limited success,” page one, June 5]. Now get out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, South Korea, Colombia, Guantánamo, et al., forthwith. Withdraw your soldiers, Special Forces, CIA, mercenaries and Blackwaters from American-occupied lands. Stop donating billions of our (China’s) wealth to Israel, Pakistan, Egypt and Colombia, and direct that money to your own citizens.
If the United States is not “at war with Islam,” look to your own impoverished, unemployed, health-uninsured citizens. And tend to the rebuilding of our deteriorating infrastructure: low-income housing, hospitals, schools, roads, bridges, national parks, etc.

Since when is U.S. a Muslim nation?
Anybody besides me choking on President Obama’s “open dialogue” with Muslims? Does it suit you folks to hear a United States president claim on foreign soil that America is one of the largest Muslim nations? The world is listening and talking smack back.
His new proclamation and identity for the U.S. sends a chill up and down my spine and should give every true American pause. Is this the change you all were looking for?
Socialism, government takeover of private industry, taxes on health care — what’s next? Making us all swear allegiance to America’s newly proclaimed “Muslim nation”?
Can anybody tell me when the metamorphosis occurred that changed America from its Christian foundation and principles as “one nation under God” into a large Muslim country?
I can’t help but wonder: Did the president purposely wait until citizens had to have a passport to come and go from America before telling us from abroad that it is a large Muslim nation?

Stop funding Palestinian terror
Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza has resulted in nonstop rocket fire at Israeli civilians. Children have grown up under constant terrorist rocket fire their entire lives.
Obama in Cairo just said, “Now is the time for Palestinians to focus on what they can build. The Palestinian Authority must develop its capacity to govern, with institutions that serve the needs of its people.”
It would be wonderful if we attached consequences, incentives and disincentives to these words. Until the terrorism Palestinian leaders sponsor with our money stops, we should instead pay for Israeli settlements in Judea and Sumaria (West Bank).
