Breed bans

The numbers don’t lie: ban aggressive breeds

In regard to the guest column in The Times [“Breed bans won’t solve problem of ‘dangerous dogs,’ ” Opinion, June 23] that banning specific breeds would not be useful, 75 percent of injuries and deaths from dog attacks are due to three breeds –pit bulls, Rottweiler and Presa.

Also, of the 5 million people bitten each year, nearly 800,000 require hospitalization with the death toll rising each year. Sadly, so many of those deaths are very young children. To view this as an actual person and not just a statistic, I still remember the photo of a 5-year-old who died by having her head and face attacked by a pit bull.

Finding fault will not solve the problem but banning these breeds will.
