Bicycles and electric cars have impact
I disagree with Taiji Tamura regarding not taxing bicyclists [“House Democrats’ transportation package focuses on gas, car-tab taxes,” Northwest Voices, Feb. 24]. I think anyone who purchases an “adult” bicycle should pay a one-time tax at the time of purchase.
Why can’t bicyclists contribute? Motorists pay yearly fees and numerous taxes on gasoline. Even though electric-car owners don’t pollute the environment, they do use the same roads as other vehicles. They should pay a reasonable yearly tax.
Where does the money come from for bicycle paths/trails and electric stations? Tax money is allocated for new roads, road repairs, potholes, etc. Since we all benefit from these things, we all need to do our part.No offense to anyone, just one reader’s opinion.
