Leave it to Cat Haven to determine what went wrong and caused Cous Cous the lion to kill intern Dianna Hanson [“Living her passion, a young woman dies,” page one, March 8].
Instead, let’s focus on the life of this courageous woman and the passion for big cats she dedicated herself to. It is hard to feel empathy for an animal that has taken a beloved member of our community, yet Dianna has taught us that humans must learn to appreciate animals for what they are, instincts and all. She understood the risks of her work and still followed her calling.
