Worker absences leads to four ferry runs being canceled

Transporting taxpayers should take priority

So one worker calls in sick and another worker oversleeps and fails to show up. The Washington State Ferry system may be the most inefficient, corrupt, union-dominated jobs program in America [“4 ferry runs canceled due to missing workers,” NWTuesday, March 26].

When will state legislators finally take control of this massive money pit, where transporting taxpayers across the Sound falls far behind self-preservation of a union as a priority? The ferry system is nothing more than the post office on water, only worse.

–Doug Smith, Nashville, Tenn. (formerly Bainbridge Island)
