Plans for Seattle Fourth of July show fizzle

yd_seattlefireworks02Disillusioned in Kenmore

I find it sad and disturbing that the leaders of some of the largest employers in the country, who profit to the tune of billions of dollars from the hard work of thousands of people of the Seattle area, are too cheap to come up a few hundred thousand dollars to cover the cost of a Fourth of July fireworks show. [“July 4th fireworks at Lake Union canceled, says organizer,” seattletimes.com, April 1.]

Instead they sit idly by and hope their employees and other concerned citizens will be willing to donate the funds needed to cover the cost. Shame on you Boeing, Starbucks, Amazon.com, Nintendo, et al. Is your greed so great that you refuse to share a minuscule part of your profits to bring so much pleasure to the people of this great city?
