Parents relying less on child care due to high costs, census reports
Government should pay for child care
The article on the increase of child-care costs, despite flat wages for workers, and that poor families pay 30 percent of their incomes for child care, highlights everything wrong with our system [“As child-care costs go up, families look for options,” page one, April 4].
Child care should be a top national and government priority, available 24 hours per day and free if we really value our children and their families.
We need a strong social safety net and can achieve it by demanding a tax on the rich and big corporations and an end to the mania of privatization, which busts unions and drives down wages. The children are our future and they must be supported.
