Jim Pugel, Seattle’s new police chief

It is important that people understand what is happening within the departments of people who are assigned to serve and protect us [“The man who will soon lead SPD,” front page, April 11].The article mentioned a few times how the Seattle Police Department is “moving forward” and has made many changes. I want to know more about these changes than just what was quickly stated toward the end of the article.

I would like to know why there is such an opposition to the federal findings. This is something that potentially affects everyone in the Seattle area and I think more can be said and explained about it.

I would appreciate more information on how the department’s argument against the federal findings is structured. Why is an “academic approach” the chosen route? There was too much space taken up at the end on Pugal’s individual background when the article’s focus should have remained on the issue at hand against and within the Seattle Police Department.
