Thank a veteran

Acknowledge veterans’ sacrifice

With the Fourth of July coming up soon, a lot of us veterans will be wearing caps and shirts that indicate we were in the armed forces.

Many patriotic Americans will take the time to approach us and say, “thank you for your service.”

While this is better than calling us names or spitting on us, “thank you for your service” always seems kind of superficial to me.

Instead, it might be better to tell a veteran, “thank you for your sacrifice,” or “thank you for our freedom.”

On July 5, please take the time to write your senator or representative regarding the 900,000 disabled veterans caught up in the backlog of Veterans Affairs.
